WhAt GoEs aROuNd, cOmES aRoUnD

Past 9am,while I was staring at the pc monitor in my workstation, Lyndon (officemate) suddenly called my attention. “Meg, may naghahanap sa’yo. Yung kalbo sa labas. Siya daw yung nag-alaga sa’yo nung bata ka..” With a blank face, I went to the entrance door and saw an unfamiliar man. I thought “Sino to? Ah… si ano… Sino nga ba yun? Si … si …”. He smiled at me and said “Ikaw pala yun. Kaibigan ako ng daddy mo. Ako yung nag-alaga sa’yo nung maliit ka” I smiled at him while I was trying to remember his name. “Ako si Yabut.” Whew! It’s good that he reminded me. “Ay! Oo nga. Hello. Kamusta ka na? Naaalala pa kita…” and so on. He has changed from a cute bad boy to a matured, full of smiles guy who has a noticeably thin hair on top of his head. He had so many experiences to share. From a naughty teenager, babaero and kanto boy in Pasay City, he’s now an employee of our sister company. He now has a wife and a 15-year-old daughter who’s doing quite all right. He’s a proud daddy of a maneuvers & trumpets dancer who is soon to be a college student of La Salle or University of the Philippines . Kuya Yabut had been to different countries. (Huh! Barung-barong din yung bahay namin noon.) We talked for about 30 minutes. We looked back on my childhood days, on our humble community 14 years ago, our friendly and cool neighbors, his mother Aling Nena who used to scold me due to my kakulitan (ha ha!), my dad (whom he calls Kuya Amado ) and our current lives. Time flies so fast. We exchanged contact numbers. I thanked him for sharing his story. I was truly encouraged. “Bah! Kung kaya nya, I’m sure na makakaya rin namin ng honey ko, ng family ko, ni myra (a good friend)…” I accompanied him to the elevator and waved goodbye.
